15-Month Check Up

When we got to the office I could see that Dagny was remembering “the place” because she really was on the verge of crying. I could see in her face the struggle. I was very glad that she opted against it, well until later. I have a feeling that next time I won’t be as lucky and she might not wait.

The minute I put her on the table to get her undressed, she lost it and started crying. It breaks my heart to see her like that. We somehow got her measured and weight. While we waited for Dr. P Dagny was sitting on my lap and we were looking through all the books in the room. It is so great that she is happy around books. In fact, I think at this point books are her favorite “toy”.

Dr. P told me that her blood work was great. Dagny is both physically and developmentally on target for her age. That’s wonderful being that Dagny lived in a foreign country the first year of her life and she didn’t have individual attention. So, of course that was music to my ears. I was so happy to hear that from the doctor. We all know that parents are bias and feel their children are perfect. In this case it was great to hear that Dagny is on mark and Craig and I are doing the right things.

To top off the visit poor little baby got three shots. She got Hepatitis A, Chickenpox, and MMR. Thankful, the nurse was super quick.

Here are her stats:

  • Weight – 23 lbs 15 oz – 55%
  • Height – 31 in 3/4 – 55%
  • Head Circumference – 18 in 1/4 – 55%

Seriously, one proportional child.

Time To Come Out Of Hibernation

This past weekend the weather was beautiful. The sun was out and that’s all it takes for me to be happy. Yes, I do realize I live in Rochester, but perhaps that is why I get so excited when we get to see the sun do it’s magic.

We went outside and took some photos of Little D and watched her walk around. This was great for two reasons. One, she is walking (DUH) and two, because it’s the first time the weather was really great to take her outside (car rides and errands around town don’t count) and watch her enjoy her new surroundings. She really does love to be outside. We noticed that back in Moscow when we had to leave our apartment while the cleaning lady was doing her thing.

Hi Daddy

Hi Mommy

Happy 16 Months Dagny

Dearest Dagny,

Another month has passed and here you are 16 months old. I can’t believe that you’re getting so big, so fast. This past month you really have blossomed in so many ways, it amazes your Daddy and I how quickly you are picking things up.

You are now walking 100% of the time. No more crawling when you feel uneasy about your footing. In fact, you have discovered running. I am not sure you understand what that is thou, but when you want to get somewhere fast, that’s what you do. My heart stops every time you do that because I am so scared you will fall and hurt yourself, but I have to remember this is your time to explore.

Physically your on mark in every sense. Weight, height, and head circumference are all in the 55% or 60%. You are one proportional child.

You love your “story time”. You bring me your books (My Little Animal Book is still your favorite) and we sit and look through at the pictures. You are able to distinguish different animals. For example, if you see the cow you say “moo moo” and if you see the dog you say “woh woh” with the biggest grin on your face. I think you’re really proud of yourself, as you should be.

When you came home and we introduced you to different people and you didn’t want others to touch you. So, what we did was introduced “baby five” to you. When I would say “baby five” you would put your hand up and let people give you a five. This seemed to fit your comfort zone. In the last couple of weeks, you have put your hand up and said “ta” and are asking for “baby fives”. You go between your Daddy and me, back and forth, over and over again with a big grin.

You absolutely love Lily and Maxie. When it comes to Lily you always want to play fetch with her and if she doesn’t run for her toy you do. Of course, that gets Lily running, she is still very much jealous of you. When I give you some cheerios you always want to share with Lily and you get so happy when she eats one. You are a very giving child. Lily is learning that too. When you want Lily to sit next to you, you start patting where you want her to sit. Just like you see Mommy and Daddy doing with her. You are very observant little girl. Maxie, is still your favorite. When you see her you get all excited and you go right up to her and you pat her and have a conversation with her, that only you two understand. Maxie just sits there and lets you have your time with her.

You still have a fascination with The Wiggles. Music needs to be running all the time. You start clapping your hands and sing “la la la” which means, Mommy, I want my music. Now that your walking you like to explore the house some more and if I don’t want you to wonder to far from me, I turn the music off and you run back to me and start clapping and singing again. It’s so funny how music has such a huge effect on you.

You have become so much more vocal lately. When you’re on the phone, you go at it for minutes at a time. You love the phone. You ask for it everyday to call Daddy. When you hear Daddy’s voice your entire face lights up. You love your Daddy so much, which again is so obvious when he comes home. You get so excited to see him that you run right up to him to pick you up.

You are such a little ham. Whenever we go out in public you start waving at people with a huge smile and say “Hi”. I can’t tell you how many people respond by saying “awwwww” and actually come up to me and say your such a beautiful little girl. It’s great that other people see what your Daddy and I already know.

You make us so happy everyday. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful little girl to share our lives with.

my little girl

I love you very much.
